Additional Information: Charlotte supported the Central Committee of the NSWS from its inception in 1871. Frustrated by the lack of progress from petitions, she advocated a tax resistance campaign based on the idea of 'no taxation without representation'. She resisted paying taxes at least 12 times in as many years. This led to her personal goods being seized and sold in lieu of her debt. She wrote a number of leaflets on women's rights, including 'A Word to Women Householders; Practical Protests; Political Outcasts'. A few days before her death, she donated a goodwill gesture of £5 to the WSPU.
Other Suffrage Activities: In the 1880s, Charlotte was also a member of the Vigilance Association for the Defence of Personal Rights.
