Family information: Father was a vicar.
Additional Information: Helen lived in Nottingham with her family and joined the WSPU in 1907. She was arrested in London in 1909 for 'obstruction' of the police when taking part in a deputation to the House of Commons. She was arrested again in 1909, for holding a protest outside a meeting being held by Winston Churchill. She went on hunger strike while being held in Leicester prison, and was released after a few days. She appears not to have carried out any more 'militant' acts but spoke at meetings all over the country, as well as at home in Nottingham. By 1912, Helen was studying and later became a nurse. In 1914, she was working for the WSPU breakaway group the Women's Freedom League (WFL).
