Additional Information: Clara was a member of the Lewisham branch of the WSPU and committed to militancy. The exploits for which she was arrested included gaining entry to the House of Commons dressed as a boy, throwing a tomato at a public prosecutor (Archibald Bodkin) and smashing the windows of a post office in the Strand, London. Clara also tried to attack Prime Minister Asquith with a dog whip, but couldn't get close enough. In frustration, she set fire to a haystack instead.
Other Suffrage Activities: During the First World War, Clara joined the Women's Police Service and afterwards worked to rescue prostitutes in London, eventually opening a refuge for them in Kent.
