Further Information:

Additional Information: Zelie travelled to England after meeting Sylvia Pankhurst in America. She became active in the British suffrage and socialist movements, first joining the WSPU and later Sylvia's predominantly working class breakaway group the East London Federation of Suffragettes (ELFS). Zelie's prison experiences were very bad. Imprisoned for two months with hard labour for demonstrating and breaking a window in 1913, she went on hunger strike, was forcibly fed and put in solitary confinement, and then was released after a probable suicide attempt. She was arrested twice more for similar demonstrations.
