Additional Information: Joan probably joined the WSPU with her sister Una Dugdale in 1907. In 1909, she was a banner bearer in the WSPU Drum and Fife Band and was arrested in London in 1910. In 1911, she was organising secretary of the Actresses Franchise League (AFL), and in 1913 wrote a satirical suffrage propaganda play, 'Clowning Street'.
