Additional Information: Gertrude was a teacher at Highbury and Islington GPDST school in London when she joined the WSPU in 1906. She became treasurer of the WSPU Kensington branch. At some point she moved to Scotland and was a WSPU organiser there by 1908 (Glasgow), where she stayed until the end of 1910. She took part in the 'Black Friday' demonstration in Parliament Square. In 1911, she subscribed to the New Constitutional Society for Women's Suffrage (NCSWS) and became secretary of the Actresses Franchise League (AFL). In 1912, she also took on the role of honorary secretary for the newly formed Federated Council of Suffrage Societies (FCSS).
