Family information: Father an inspector of schools in Devon and Cornwall. She had nine sisters.
Additional Information: Clara became a member of the militant WSPU in 1907, and in 1908 was still a member of the Bath branch of the law-abiding NUWSS. However, she resigned from the NUWSS later that year when the WSPU opened a new branch in Bath, of which she became honorary secretary. She went to work as an organiser in Bristol for the WSPU with Annie Kenney, whom she worshipped and whose bed she made a great note of sharing. Clara took part in the 'raid' on the House of Commons and was arrested and sentenced with Mabel Capper to one month in prison. Clara's autobiography details her prison experiences.
Other Suffrage Activities: Clara was a member of the Social Democratic Federation (a socialist group) and became a theosophist.
