Family information: Daughter to Hilda Brackenbury and sister to Georgina Brackenbury, both suffrage campaigners.
Additional Information: Marie initially subscribed to the law-abiding NUWSS in 1907 and 1908 but, like her sister Georgina, also joined the WSPU in 1907. She was arrested in 1908 for taking part in the WSPU 'raid' on the House of Commons (as was her sister) and was imprisoned in Holloway. In 1912, she spent eight days on remand and two weeks in Holloway Prison with her mother and sister for causing a disturbance in New Palace Yard. Marie was also an active supporter of the Women's Tax Resistance League (WTRL) and, with her sister, belonged to the International Women's Franchise Club. The Brackenbury family home was infamous for giving shelter to suffragette prisoners temporarily released under the 'Cat and Mouse Act'. See Hilda Brackenbury.
