Additional Information: Lillian was a member of the West of England branch of the WSPU in 1908 and held an 'at home' meeting for it in Bristol in October that year. She was arrested in 1909 while taking part in the WSPU deputation to the House of Commons, and was sentenced to one month in prison. She went on hunger strike and was released. However, she was afterwards charged with hitting a wardress while in prison and received a further ten days. She again went on hunger strike and was released. Lillian became honorary secretary of the Bristol branch of the WSPU when Annie Kenney left in 1911. Her home there was used by many suffragettes to recuperate after periods of imprisonment. Lillian was wholly committed to the Pankhursts, becoming a member of Emmeline Pankhurst's bodyguard team. In 1913, she was arrested with others trying to present a petition to the King at the opening of Parliament, and was sentenced to one month in prison. She later became a member of Sylvia Pankhurst's East London Federation of Suffragettes (ELFS).
