Additional Information: In 1866, Elizabeth shared her address with Susan Selwood, who also signed the 1866 petition. She was secretary to a Nottingham committee affiliated to the Central Committee of the NSWS (CCNSWS), which formed in 1872. She also took the platform with others at a 'grand demonstration' held in the town in November 1880. Soon after, the committee re-formed, calling itself the Nottingham branch of the National Women's Suffrage Society (1881). Elizabeth remained part of the re-formed society committee and was active as a member until 1889.
Other Suffrage Activities: Between 1873 and 1875, Elizabeth took exams in political economy (she was one of only two women to have done so in Nottingham), physical geology, astronomy and the constitutional history of England, using the local lecture scheme run by the University of Cambridge. By 1874, she was mistress of the People's College in Nottingham. It provided day schooling for boys and girls and evening classes for adults. It is not clear why, but by 1885, she had left and was, by contrast, running a very small school in shared premises at 74 Shakespeare Street, Nottingham.
